Our Parish Nurses Team meets monthly at Atonement, on the second Tuesday from 1:00-2:00pm in room 108, performing a much-appreciated service of ministry and caring. The Parish Nurses group includes registered nurses and others who recognize the need for those going through health issues to have a caring presence through their church (being an RN is not required).
They regularly check in on Atonement’s members remembered on the prayer sheet, just to see how they are doing . . . if they need transportation to doctor’s appointments or therapy . . . if a delivered meal would be appreciated . . . if simply providing an hour or two of respite care for the caregiver would be helpful, giving them time to run errands or have a few minutes for themselves.
They also keep Atonement’s first aid kits current, ensuring that there are no out-of-date items included. They manage resources on a variety of topics – cancer, therapy givers, etc. They keep the AED unit in the lobby in good working order, and arrange for CPR classes to be held at Atonement.
Those they touch respond gratefully, taking comfort in the knowledge that there are people at Atonement who are there for them . . . who can help make a difficult time easier to manage, just by reaching out and caring.
