The mission of Youth and Young Adult Spiritual Life at Atonement is to connect people to Christ. We do that through experiences and activities that allow our students and families to dig deeper into their relationship with Christ and really make their faith their own. We empower our youth to be leaders and are dedicated to equipping vibrant and authentic adults to walk alongside our youth and their families during this period of their faith journey. We look forward to walking with you as well. Watch for our fall start-ups!

Our middle school ministry focuses on beginning to apply the lessons that we talk about in Sunday School to our daily lives. Through weekly lessons, game nights, retreats and even summer camp, we walk alongside our middle school students to see what the Holy Spirit has in store for them. We know that middle school can be a crazy time, but it also can be an incredibly exciting, and fun time and we want to be there for all of it with our young people. Within our middle school ministry, we have our Confirmation program which our 7th and 8th graders are a part of for two years.
Here at Atonement, high school ministry is crucial to everything we do. We take a look at Bible lessons and scripture readings to see how they apply to us in today’s world and what it means for God to call us to be disciples of all nations. We meet for Sunday youth group where we explore themes and lessons from the Bible in both large and small groups. We have an amazing team of small group leaders who want to walk and grow with our young people in their faith journeys. High school ministry also has a lot of shenanigans from wacky games, mission trips and some great service opportunities.
Collective is a collaboration of churches in the Overland Park area that work together to do youth group events. The group currently consists of five churches but it open to any church that wants to be a part of collaborative ministry. Collaborative ministry allows our youth directors to work together, bounce ideas off each other, and dream up some amazing trips and experiential ministry opportunities. Both Atonement’s middle school and high school ministry programs are a part of Collective and we do monthly Collective events for each group. Check back in the fall to see the Collective calendar!
Our Young Adult Ministry is something that we hope to grow at Atonement. One avenue that we are currently offering is our Young Adult Mission Trip. The Young Adult Mission Trip this year is headed to Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp in Hillside, Colorado over Memorial Day weekend. This is a Collective run trip so please go to the Collective website to learn more.

Rehearsals are held in the balcony of the sanctuary on Sundays from 12:30-1:30 pm. Students will learn the basics of reading music, and ringing handbells and chimes to support worship. They will play once a month for worship as well as for the 5:00pm service on Christmas Eve. They are included in the Spring Youth Music Mission Trip, and may participate in the all-day “Ring in the Spring” event the first Saturday of March. Please contact Julie Assel with any questions.
For those not familiar with YES WAY!, it was formed a number of years ago for 4th-6th graders to perform mission work during the year. WHY? Kids are creatures of habit. If we can involve them in volunteering consistently as a youth, they will do so the rest of their lives. We’ve expanded the ministry to include 3rd-8th grade students. Questions, please contact Dawn Greer. We are hoping to begin again in the fall of 2021; watch the bulletin insert and the eNews for details.
